The Belgian Low-Carbon Investor Barometer is back. Led by Pulse, the Belgian Green Building Council (BGBC) and Expertise, this second edition aims to capture how investors are adapting their portfolios and strategies in a rapidly evolving market

Why participate?

The transition to a low-carbon real estate market requires more than regulation. It requires a clear understanding of where the market stands, what is working, and what still holds investors back.

The Belgian Low-Carbon Investor Barometer was created to provide that shared understanding.

By participating, you contribute to a collective benchmark that brings greater transparency to the market and helps identify the priorities, challenges and opportunities shaping the future of real estate investment in Belgium.

The objective is not only to measure progress, but also to create a common reference point for investors and foster a more informed conversation about the future of the market.

What did we learn from the 2025 edition?

The first edition, based on responses from investors representing more than €42 billion in assets, revealed several important trends:

  • 91% considered decarbonisation an important strategic priority.
  • 58% believed the Belgian real estate sector was lagging behind in its low-carbon transition.
  • 70% identified renovation as their primary decarbonisation strategy.
  • 49% cited asset liquidity as the main driver of their low-carbon ambitions.
  • 79% expected a discount on assets that fail to meet low-carbon objectives.

The findings confirmed that carbon performance is no longer only an environmental consideration. It is increasingly influencing asset value, investment decisions and portfolio resilience.
